Tuition and aid
Tuition and financial aid.
- Day tuition
- $59,938 for day students in grades 4 to 12
- Boarding tuition
- $84,497 for boarding students in grades 9 to 12
- The aid approach
- The school says it offers the most generous financial aid in the area.
- How need is weighed in admission
- Admissions is need-blind, and the school works to meet the full demonstrated need of every admitted student.
- Who has received aid
- In recent years, households with incomes from $25,000 to more than $350,000 have been eligible for aid.
- Aid at St. Albans
- For 2026-27 the school granted more than $6,400,000 in need-based aid. About 30 percent of students receive aid, and grants range from 5 to 99 percent of tuition with an average of about 69 percent.
- Need-based only
- Awards are strictly need-based. The one exception is a stipend for Cathedral Choristers (grades 4 to 6) and Acolytes (grades 9 to 12).
- Who can apply
- Any student may apply for aid, whether day or boarding, local, national or international, at any grade level. Applying for aid has no bearing on the admission decision.
- How to apply for aid
- Families apply through Clarity. It opens October 1, takes fewer than 30 minutes, can be saved and resumed, and is also available in Spanish. The application fee is $60.
- Aid deadline
- The financial aid application is due January 20, 2027 for applicant families and January 5, 2027 for current families.
- When you hear
- Aid decisions come with the admission decision when the aid application is complete by the deadline. The Financial Aid Committee may use an aid waiting list.
- Privacy
- Financial aid information is held in strict confidence. Faculty and students do not know who receives assistance.
- Renewal
- Aid continues while the student stays in good academic and disciplinary standing and the family continues to show need. Families reapply each year.
- Tax documents
- Clarity transfers tax documents directly from the IRS so families do not upload them.
- Help with the form
- Clarity support is available in English and Spanish at support@claritytuition.com or 206-210-3752.
- Skip Grant Program
- The school runs the Skip Grant Program, directed by Glennard "OJ" Johnson '97.
