Before you enroll

Questions from parents.

Which grades can my son enter?

The entry years are grades 4, 6, 7 and 9. Grades 5, 8, 10 and 11 are non-entry years. Places in non-entry grades are limited: grade 8 averages 0 to 2 a year and grades 10 and 11 average 0 to 3 a year. The school does not offer tours or shadow visits for non-entry grades.

Are test scores required?

Applicants to grade 9 must submit scores for the SSAT, ISEE or HSPT by January 13, 2027. Any one of the three is acceptable. The school code is 6256 for the SSAT and 090165 for the ISEE.

Is there an interview?

Interviews take place during the shadow visit day, which the school describes as "shadow visits and interviews". Grade 9 applicants spend a day at the school: Admissions, a campus tour, classes and lunch with a 9th-grade student ambassador. Visits and interviews run from 9:10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on select days from October through early February.

What does it cost?

$59,938 for day students in grades 4 to 12 $84,497 for boarding students in grades 9 to 12 $80 for domestic applicants and $120 for international applicants. Families can contact the Admissions Office for a waiver code.

Does St. Albans offer financial aid?

Admissions is need-blind, and the school works to meet the full demonstrated need of every admitted student. Awards are strictly need-based. The one exception is a stipend for Cathedral Choristers (grades 4 to 6) and Acolytes (grades 9 to 12).

Does applying for aid affect admission?

Any student may apply for aid, whether day or boarding, local, national or international, at any grade level. Applying for aid has no bearing on the admission decision.

Does St. Albans have boarding?

About thirty international, domestic and local Upper School students live in the dorm in the Lane-Johnston Building. Boarding is for Upper School students, and boarding tuition is listed for grades 9 to 12.

When do families hear back?

Decision letters are posted in each applicant's Ravenna account on February 26, 2027. Families respond to offers of admission by March 12, 2027.
